How can we make it easier to get outside in Alabama?

This work was created as part of my M. Arch. thesis in 2020. The goal of this project was to explore ways in which existing critical infrastructure and the associated easements could be modified to create more public space in a state that is made up of large tracts of private land holdings. The work presented below explores methods through which a system of parks and trails could connect downtown Birmingham to the state’s existing public lands via existing electrical transmission easement pathways - requiring no new easements for trails, and creating large quantitative benefits to the communities that border these existing easements.
